A client may go through a nasty accident and end up in a wheelchair; here is what you should do when they come for a massage in your spa:
- You will wheel them to the massage wheel and if they will agree, you will help them to get out of the wheelchair and get them on the massage table. For this, you will need an assistant to comfortably get them on the massage table without hurting them.
- If the client is not willing to get off the wheelchair, you can still carry on with the massage as they sit in the wheelchair.
- Some wheelchairs have a back that can be folded and it would be quite easy to massage the client without having to ask him to readjust his position. Other wheelchairs cannot be adjusted and you have to ask your client to slightly lean forward so that you will be able to reach their lower back.
- When massaging a client in a wheelchair, you only massage the areas you can reach and this should be done for the duration the client is comfortable with.
- To make your client more comfortable, you can place some pillows on the client’s lap and ask him to lean on them. This will make it easy to reach the lower parts of the back region as well as the shoulders and the neck.
