When to Stay Away from a Foot Massage in Pregnancy
Despite all the benefits that a pregnant woman will have when she undergoes a foot massage, there are certain conditions that would make a foot massage a not so good idea. Some of these are:
- Pitting edema: if the feet of the pregnant woman has some indents that will disappear slowly when pressed inside, the woman should not go through a foot massage as this could be assign of a life-threatening complication.
- Deep vein thrombosis: this condition is characterized by a formation of blood clots in the veins that are very painful. Having a massage in such a condition may make the clot shift from the foot to the lungs which will hinder the proper flow of blood.
- Preeclampsia: If the limbs are swollen and instead of diminishing the swelling is increasing, do not go on with a foot massage as this could be a sign that the blood pressure is high.
A foot massage should only be carried out in a professional spa where the massage therapist will know when it is right to give the massage and when it is would be best to avoid the massage.
If there is any indication that the massage will only lead to more complications, the massage therapist should be able to advise you accordingly so that you, as well as the unborn child, will be safe.
A foot massage carried out in the right condition and by the right person will guarantee your safety and will bring relief from some of the conditions that are associated with pregnancy. You will be able to carry the pregnancy with ease with little or no complications.
