Difference between Pregnancy Massage and Other Massage Types
Though the benefits of both pregnancy massage and the other types of massages are almost the same, there are certain characteristics that make pregnancy massage stand out from the rest. These are:

• Pressure: The pressure exerted in other types of massage is more intense than the pressure exerted during a pregnancy massage. This is because of the sensitive nature of the woman’s body when she is expecting a child.
• Parts of the body being massaged:  when a pregnant woman is being massaged, there are certain parts of the body that cannot be massaged. For other types of massage, almost all parts of the body are massaged.
• A pregnant woman is massaged while lying on her side to avoid harming the unborn child. For the other types of massage, the person being massaged can lie either on the back or with the stomach in accordance with the part being massaged.
• When a pregnant woman is being massaged, there are special pillows that are placed on the massage table to make her more comfortable. For the other types of massage, the client will lie on the massage table, without the need for a pillow.
• A massage therapist who is massaging a pregnant woman must go through an extra course and learn about pregnancy massage. A massage therapist who conducts other types of massages will only require learning the basics of massage therapy.
• When massaging a pregnant woman, aromatherapy oils are exempted from the massage therapy. For other types of massage, aromatherapy oils can be used as long as the person being massaged does not suffer from allergic reactions.
• A massage room where a pregnancy massage is being carried out should be free from any strong scents. For other types of massages, the client is free to choose whether to use scented oils or those that do not have any scent.

As seen above, there is need to have a qualified massage therapist when massaging a pregnant woman, one who understands what to do and what to keep off from.
