How to Handle a Client in Case a Seizure Attack Occurs When Massaging Him
In a spa environment, you will handle different kind of people some of whom you may not know their medical history. Suppose a client comes in and in the process of carrying out the massage, a seizure attack occurs… Below is a simplified guide to help you deal with such a situation:

• If a client usually has these attacks, he will ask for help when he is about to get an attack and you should ensure that he is helped out of the massage table and onto a floor where there is a free space.
• Do not try to suppress the seizure, let the client be.
• If the client did not alert you of the oncoming seizure, ensure that he does not fall off the massage table. You can ask for help from colleagues so that they will make a wall around the massage table to prevent the client from falling.
• If the client was lying with his face down, get a pillow and put it under them so that the face will get off the massage table’s face piece.
• If the client was looking up, do not place anything in the mouth as you may get injured in the process. You will only need to ensure that the client does not fall.
• Wipe off the frothing on the mouth to keep the airway open and once the seizure subsides, let them lie on their side for ease of breathing.
• Ensure that no part of the body was damaged as the seizure was ongoing.
• While all this is happening, ensure that the client is well draped as a way of showing respect and maintaining their privacy.
• Calmly reassure the client that everything is okay so that they will not suffer from shock or any unnecessary embarrassment.

If the client did not suffer any injuries and the seizure did not last long, there will be no need to seek medical help as the client knows how to manage the condition.
