What makes a great massage?
- A confident touch: The first touch on a client’s body should be a sign that you know exactly what you are doing. If your touch is not confident, the client will think that you are not sure of what you are supposed to do and you are just trying to find your way.
- Continued touch: Do not disrupt the flow of the massage by removing both hands from the client’s body. A client will be more at peace if maintain the touch as it will be a sign that it is a continuous process.
- When working on a certain area of the client, do not make halfway strokes as this will make the client feel as though the massage is incomplete. Thoroughly cover the entire area being massaged as this will make the client feel satisfied.
- Sensitivity and response: As a massage therapist, you have to be sensitive to the client’s response to every touch. You should also use verbal means to ask if a certain move is creating any discomfort.
- Be focused: As long as the client is on the massage bed, let your entire attention be focused on her. Some clients like to talk throughout the massage session and it will be your responsibility to wisely bring back the required silence without sounding bossy or uninterested in the conversation.
