Why Clients Prefer Female Massage Therapists
A lot of men who are interested in becoming massage therapists are mostly put off by the preference of most clients to have female massage therapists attend to them. Below are the reasons why clients will prefer to have a female massage therapist leaving the male massage therapists with a few or no clients:

• Safety: A massage therapy session requires that the person being massaged should remove all or most of her clothes and put on a robe. This makes them feel vulnerable and will, therefore, prefer a person who is of a weaker gender as he poses less threat to their vulnerability.
• Judgment: A female client might have the fear that once a male massage therapist attends to her, he will judge her based on how her body looks and may no longer be confident before him in the future.
• Sexuality: Most clients especially female will harbor fears that the male massage therapists will take advantage of them and abuse them sexually. This will make them prefer to have a female massage therapist instead.
• Homophobia: A man may be uncomfortable when a fellow man is massaging him and this will make him prefer a female massage therapist.
• Nurturing:  a female massage therapist has softer hands and her touch will be gentle on the body. Due to this, people who are going through emotional stress may prefer to have a female massage therapist as they will feel safer, and nurtured.

A male massage therapist must find a way of overcoming these fears and proof to his clients that he too can deliver without deviating from the main issues. He should create an atmosphere that will make the client feel safe and avoid being judgmental even when a client asks for his opinion. Show sincere concern about any issue your client may raise during the massage and be wise in any reply you will utter. With time, you will win their trust and get as many customers as your female counterparts or even more.
