As a massage therapist, you should know the best cause of action in case a client develops allergic reactions during a massage session. Here is what you should do:
- Calm down: Panic will not help in this situation; calmly inform the client of what is happening and ask if he has ever experienced such a reaction before. If yes, he will inform you what he uses to get rid of the allergic reaction.
- For hives and itching: use hydrocortisone to help in reducing the swelling and the itching as well.
- For difficulty in breathing: Make the client relax and ask him to take in a deep breath. You should ensure that the massage room has a free circulation of air as it will also help.
- Vomiting: If a client begins to vomit during a massage session, make him lie on his side so that he will not be chocked by the vomit.
- If a client develops nasal congestion, buy an over-the-counter decongestant and it will relieve him of the congestion
- If the eyes become itchy or watery, use an eye drop to help the client get over the symptom.
- You should seek urgent medical attention if the signs of the allergic reactions are severe or fail to go away even after the initial treatment with over-the-counter drugs.
