When a pregnant woman comes to your spa for a massage, here is a simple guide to help you when massaging her belly:
- Prior to touching her belly, put some safe massage oil on your hands and rub them together smoothly. You should go for oil that has vitamin E as this will sooth the skin and help in getting rid of any itchiness.
- A pregnant woman should be massaged while lying on her side to ensure that she is comfortable and the baby is safe too. It will also help you to reach every part of the belly without too much strain.
- You can put a massage pillow on the massage bed to ensure that the pregnant woman is comfortable throughout the massage. She will lie on her side, and place one leg under the pillow and have the other one over the pillow to ensure that there will be no undue pressure on the baby or the woman as well.
- Shake both hands and arms as well to help in making them soft and ensuring that they are relaxed. Using gentle strokes glide both hands over the belly and move them around according to the shape of the bump. Remember to use gentle strokes to avoid harming the baby.
- You should move the hands from the side and towards the middle, then from the position on the side of the groin moving upwards. Do not remove both hands from the woman’s belly so that she will know that the massage is still in progress.
- To prevent the pregnant woman from getting too tired, you can change positions from lying down, to sitting on a chair and reclining on it. In all the positions, ensure you make good use of the massage pillows to ensure that she is as comfortable as possible.
