Is it Safe to Use Pregnancy Massage Tables?
In an effort to accommodate pregnant women in massage spas and ensure that they too get a massage, a lot of inventions have come up in the market today. One of these innovations is the pregnancy massage table which has cutout holes in the area the belly will lie on and on the area around the breasts. However, the safety of using a pregnancy massage table is not the best option as it may result in the following:

• It will lead to unnecessary stretching of the stomach skin and its ligaments: when a pregnant woman lies with her stomach hanging in the hole in the middle of a massage table, the stomach will not be supported. The stomach will be unsupported leading to undue stress which may lead to the appearance of stretch marks.
• When the stomach is lying on that hole without any form of support, the lower back may experience undue pressure leading to more intense back pain.
• The hole on the massage table is not custom made and may not fit all pregnancy sizes. Some women will have larger bellies when pregnant while others will not be too big. A pregnant woman may, therefore, try to lie on the pregnancy massage table but the belly will not fit, leading to great discomfort.
• Some massage tables have slings that are supposed to support the belly in an effort to reduce the pressure on the belly. This will, however, not be the case as the sling will put back the pressure that was meant to be taken off the belly and it may end up harming the unborn baby.

As seen above, it is not safe to lie on a pregnancy massage table as it will lead to more complications. Instead, you should use pregnancy massage pillows while the pregnant woman is laying on her side. In this position, the pregnant woman will be very comfortable and the massage therapist will be able to reach every part of her body.
