When to Avoid Massage during Pregnancy
Though there are numerous benefits accrued from getting a massage while pregnant, there are instances where the massage will not be safe both for you and the unborn child. Such instances include:
If you feel dizzy or sickly during the massage, you should stop the massage and wait until you deliver. You should only do what you are comfortable with. As a result of the hormonal changes, you may dislike anyone intruding into your privacy including the massage therapist. If this is the case, the best option will be to avoid massage altogether. Your happiness will determine the health and growth of your baby and you should, therefore, take utmost care.

Though there are numerous benefits accrued from getting a massage while pregnant, there are instances where the massage will not be safe both for you and the unborn child. Such instances include:
- If you are vomiting or feeling extreme nausea: Massaging in such instances will make it worse. You should wait until the feeling subsides and only then can you have the massage.
- If you suffered a miscarriage before: you should not attempt to get a massage if you at one time lost a pregnancy as a result of a miscarriage.
- If you are suffering from high blood pressure as a result of the pregnancy.
- If you recently gave birth and you are pregnant again, you should also avoid getting a massage.
- If you are experiencing severe headaches or have a sign of flu. A massage when you have flu will make the infection move to their body parts making it more severe.
- If you suffer from preeclampsia
- If you have severe swelling in your body
- If you are in the first trimester of the pregnancy, you should avoid getting a massage as the likelihood of getting a miscarriage is very high. You should wait until you get to the second or third trimester to have the massage.
